Who I am
“That was really good! Do you have some experience in doing this?”
I’ve heard that quite a few times now from wedding planners, as the bride and groom go off to take family photos after a ceremony. “Yes,” I explain, “I’m actually kind of a professional!” My name is Dylan, and, as an active ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, I plan and lead services every single week. My expertise is in crafting words and moments that are both spiritually meaningful and deeply personal, making the sacred aspects of life feel relevant to the day-to-day.
Today, when few couples are affiliated with a church or religious community, many opt for a friend or family member to officiate, oftentimes for the first time and without any training or experience. I believe your wedding ceremony deserves the same care and attention as every other detail of your day! You hire a professional photographer to capture the moments, and a professional DJ to get the party started at the reception. You deserve a professional officiant who can make the pivotal moment of your wedding just as memorable. I can help you do that.
Think of me as a chaplain for your wedding. My role is to help you forge the spiritual foundation for your life together. If you are interested in further strengthening your relationship’s foundations, I am certified to facilitate Prepare/Enrich, a premarital assessment system designed to identify potential conflicts, discover and cultivate your relational strengths, and ensure you start your marriage on the right foot.
As a United Methodist pastor, my focus is Christian ceremonies, but I have worked with a range of nondenominational, Roman Catholic, and even interfaith couples. We can work together to ensure the traditions that are meaningful to you and your families are included in your service.
I am LGBTQ+ affirming, and am honored to work with any couple joining together in marriage—particularly those LGBTQ+ couples who would like a Christian marriage but have not found the church community that embraces them.
